讓王

Abdication

View:

The Truth of the Way for Governing the Self

Therefore it is said: the truth of the Way is for governing the self; its leftovers are for managing the state; its dregs are for governing the world. Seen from this perspective, the achievements of emperors and kings are merely the sage's surplus activities — not the means by which one perfects the self and nourishes life.

The Butcher Shuo's Refusal

The butcher Shuo said: 'When the great king lost his state, it was not my fault — so I did not dare submit to punishment. When the great king recovered his state, it was not my achievement — so I do not dare accept any reward.'
