齊桓公問管子曰：“吾念有而勿失，得而勿忘，為之有道乎？”對曰：“勿創勿作，時至而隨。毿以私好惡害公正，察民所惡，以自為戒。”
Duke Huan of Qi asked Guan Zhong: 'I wish to possess without losing, to gain without forgetting — is there a method for this?' Guan Zhong replied: 'Do not innovate, do not contrive — when the time comes, follow it. Do not let private likes and dislikes harm public justice. Examine what the people dislike, and make it your own warning.'
