Music Is Joy
Music is joy — something that human feelings cannot avoid. People cannot be without joy; joy must find expression in sound and voice, and take shape in movement and stillness. The Way of humanity — sound, voice, movement, and stillness — exhausts all the transformations of nature and technique. People cannot be without joy; joy cannot be without form; and form that is not guided by the Way cannot be without disorder. The former kings hated this disorder, and so they created the sounds of the Elegantiae and Hymns to guide it.
