“Intellectual powerhouse, economic giant, diplomatic heavyweight. Qi's Jixia Academy attracted thinkers from every school. Wealthiest state through salt and fish monopolies. Capable of brilliant diplomacy but prone to complacency after periods of success.”
Biography 傳
King Xuan succeeded King Wei and continued Qi's ascent, bringing the state to its zenith of influence. He expanded the Jixia Academy to host thousands of scholars — Mencius, Xunzi, Zou Yan, and many others debated at his court. Politically, King Xuan pursued an activist foreign policy, intervening in the succession disputes of neighboring states and positioning Qi as the counterweight to Qin's growing power. However, the seeds of Qi's later vulnerability were also planted during his reign, as Qi's periodic military overextension began to strain its resources.
