“Vast territory, decentralized governance, culturally distinct from northern states. Unpredictable and patient. Rich shamanic tradition. Capable of immense power but hampered by feudal aristocratic factions that resist centralization.”
Biography 傳
Lord Chunshen (Huang Xie) was one of the Four Lords of the Warring States — the most powerful noble patrons of the era. He served as prime minister of Chu for over two decades, wielding enormous influence over state affairs. His household in the Chu capital maintained a personal retinue of thousands of retainers and scholars, competing with the other three lords (Lord Xinling of Wei, Lord Pingyuan of Zhao, and Lord Mengchang of Qi) to attract the most talented advisors. Lord Chunshen played a key role in the 257 BC relief of Handan, where Chu forces joined Wei and Zhao to break Qin's siege. He was assassinated in a palace coup shortly before Chu's final decline.
