Governance Without Disorder
桓公問管子曰：「治而不亂，明而不蔽，若何？」管子對曰：「明分任職，則治而不亂，明而不蔽矣。」
Duke Huan asked Guan Zhong: 「How can one govern without disorder and see clearly without obstruction?」 Guan Zhong replied: 「Clearly assign divisions and appoint officials to their duties, and governance will be without disorder and clarity without obstruction.」
The Instruments of Victory
桓公曰：「請問戰勝之器？」管子對曰：「選天下之豪傑，致天下之精材，來天下之良工，則有戰勝之器矣。」
Duke Huan asked: 「What are the instruments of battlefield victory?」 Guan Zhong replied: 「Select the finest heroes, obtain the best materials, and attract the most skilled craftsmen from all under heaven — then you will have the instruments of victory.」
The Yellow Emperor’s Six Ministers
昔者黃帝得蚩尤而明於天道，得大常而察乎地利，得奢龍而辯乎東方，得祝融而辯乎南方。黃帝得六相而天地治，神明至。
In ancient times, the Yellow Emperor obtained Chiyou and gained clarity about the Way of Heaven, obtained Dachang and gained insight into the advantages of the earth, obtained Shelong and gained understanding of the east, obtained Zhurong and gained understanding of the south. With six ministers the Yellow Emperor governed heaven and earth, and spiritual illumination was achieved.
Notes
Chiyou (蚩尤) was a legendary war god and tribal leader.
Zhurong (祝融) was the legendary god of fire and the south.
